This has been reported by the Israel Space Agency regarding the launching of nine miniature satellites that had been conceived and constructed by high school pupils in Israel. This has been referred to by the ISA on the social media platform X as a great feat of launching "the largest Israeli satellite constellation built by students in nine municipalities" aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, outside California from Vandenberg Space Force Base. The time of the satellites' launch, according to SpaceX, was 8.43 a.m., Xinhua news agency added.
The satellites, including the first-ever Druze satellite produced by students from the Druze community, were launched into an orbit approximately 500 km above Earth and will remain there for about three years for science investigation measuring cosmic radiation and repairs of electronic components, according to a different statement from the ISA on its website.
The statement cited further explains that the construction of the satellites was part of the Tevel 2 National project overseen by the ISA and Tel Aviv University worth 10.5 million shekels (about 2.88 million dollars).
"The project aims to connect different Israeli communities by promoting equal opportunities in science and technology education," the statement said. It also involved building satellite communication stations so that students could follow up on mission data and be involved in operations.
"We see a wonderful combination of scientific excellence, technological education and societal integration," said Uri Oron, director of the ISA. In addition, he remarked that Tevel 2 proves the strength of Israeli innovation. "These satellites are not only going to provide valuable scientific data; Oron said they will also give inspiration to the next generation of Israeli space scientists.”
"The mini-satellites are purposely developed to run for about three years, aiming to galvanize the next generation of space engineers and scientists in Israel.”
