Google Pay on the verge of launching NFC-based contactless card payment in India

The tech giant Google is currently testing a near-field communication (NFC) technology which will allow Google pay users to make contactless payments.
Google is giving users the option to add their card numbers for direct payment where until now it only supported UPI-based payment method.
As per reports and a Google support page, "only Axis Visa cards and SBI Visa credit cards can be added to your payment methods. International cards aren’t supported by Google Pay at this time."
Google users will have to go to Settings > Payment Methods > Add Card to add their credit cards or debit cards as an NFC-payment option. The users will be required to fill in card number, expiry date, CVV, and the card holder’s name and billing address.
Thereafter, once the user saves it, they will get an OTP for confirmation. Currently, it is rolled out server-side only.
Google Pay creates a virtual account number known as a 'token' once users enter their card numbers successfully. This will replace the card’s actual number. Also, Google Pay users will still need to link a bank account that acts as the default payment method to pay people directly or to send or receive money with others.
There will be a process called tokenization which can be used by the users to pay merchants across day-to-day transactions.
