Twitter Launches new API to help developers Create Top Features

To help academics, businesses and third party developers to build and launch new features faster, Twitter has unveiled a new Application Programming Interface (API).

This new feature - API v2 - offers a third-party developer with early access to features such as poll results in tweets, conversation threading, pinned tweets on profiles, spam filtering and a more powerful steam filtering and search query language.

According to a report by The Verge, rather than forcing third parties to wait before serving  new tweets, there will also be an access to a real-time tweet stream.  THis API v2 is the first complete rebuild of Twitter’s API 2012. Each with different access levels, this new API system puts different products in the same platform.

From gauging flood levels from tweets to tracking the spread of online hate speech, researchers utilizes Twitter’s API for numerous purposes.  According to Twitter's Alyssa Reese, “We want developers to get moon-eyed when they talk about our documentation. Our aim is to be a company that other developer platforms reference when they are looking for inspiration (and we know we have a way to go)."

The report said that the earlier Twitter’s API was separated into three different platforms - enterprise (custom paid), premium (self-service paid), and standard (free). But however, this new API will have a single platform, which then split into the different tiers of access.
